I've been trying to organize the avatar gallery into different category folders so that users don't have to see one giant list of all images, but I've had no luck. is there a way to set EnvoAvatar to recognize different category folders on the server? so far it just seems to look at them like broken images, and that's no good...
any suggestions?

For the moment the EnvoAvatar code doesn't look in any subdirectory. In fact it considers everything in the directory as images (this is why subdirectories are displayed as broken images)
Of course it would be possible to implement some kind of Avatars categories.
But my problem is that with the launch of the AmaZone module and the work needed on the weather module to make it templated I don't have any time available in the upcoming weeks.
I also work with Mark and Jorg on EZComments that will be released after PostNuke .760 is out.
So I am affraid EnvoAvatar will have to wait
Also the EnvoAvatar code shows its' age !! And it seems to me that a complete rewrite is needed.
What I would like (and I will discuss this with the other core developpers) is make it the "standard" way to have Avatar "extended" features available for a PostNuke site.
As you may already know, we are in fact planning to remove a lot of features from the PostNuke core for the .8 release because every website doesn't need News, Reviews, WebLinks, Downloads, ...
So the user will download a slim core package
And another package depending of the usage they intend to do with their PostNuke website (there could be a "blog" package a "publication" package a "community" package, ...
If we go that way, there could be a "pnAvatar" module in some of these packages, but not all because for instance a professional website may not need this feature. -

I revisit this old thread now that pnavatar 1.0 is out. As you see this feature didn't make it's way in the first release but I want to add it to a future release.
What I need is an idea of an interface for the user to choose an avatar category then an avatar.
